MIL-DTL-62187C
stabilized to standard ambient conditions. No physical damage shall exist when
the regulator is operated.
4.4.4.5 Humidity. To determine conformance to 3.6.5, the regulator shall be exposed to
the following procedure:
a. The regulator shall be installed as in use in a chamber vented and baffled to assure
an even flow of warm humid air as specified herein. No condensation shall be
permitted to drip on the regulator. Relative humidity shall be measured by the dry
bulb-wet bulb thermometer comparison method, or equivalent. Air velocity in the
internal test space shall not exceed 150 feet per minute (ft/min) (45.6 meters per
minute (m/min)). Steam or distilled, demineralized or deionized water having a
pH value between 6 and 7.2 at 73 3F (23 1C) shall be used to obtain the
specified humidity. No rust or corrosive contaminants shall be imposed on the
test sample by the test facility. During this test, no repair or replacement shall be
permitted and the regulator shall be operated only when necessary.
b. After having been dried for 24 hours at 129 3F (54 1.5C), the regulator shall
be conditioned at 73 3F and 50 10% relative humidity for 24 hours. The
internal chamber temperature shall be raised to 86 3F (30 2C) and 94 4%
relative humidity. The regulator shall be exposed to 5 continuous 48 hour cycles
in accordance with figure 9. Accumulated moisture may be removed by turning
the regulator upside down or shaking. Wiping shall not be permitted. The
regulator shall show no visible damage, corrosion or swelling.
4.4.4.6 Fungus verification. To determine conformance to 3.6.6, the regulator shall be
subjected to fungal incubation for 28 days in accordance with method 508.4 of MIL-STD-810, or
equivalent (see 4.2.1). Samples shall be incubated under cyclic temperature and humidity
conditions and shall include 20 hours of relative humidity at 95 5% at an air temperature of 86
2F (30 1C), followed by 4 hours of 100% relative humidity at 77 2F (25 1C). There
shall be no evidence of fungal growth.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Packaging. For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as
specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). When actual packaging of materiel is to be
performed by DoD or in-house personnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible
packaging activity to ascertain requisite packaging requirements. Packaging requirements are
maintained by the Inventory Control Point s packaging activity within the Military Department
or Defense Agency, or within the military service s system commands. Packaging data retrieval
is available from the managing Military Department s or Defense Agency s automated
packaging files, CD-ROM products, or by contacting the responsible packaging activity.
