MIL-DTL62062E
or defects which may affect their performance and serviceability. Asbestos and cadmium
materials shall not be used in any form in any part of this blower assembly. No item, part or
assembly shall contain radioactive materials in which the specific activity is greater than 0.002
microcuries per gram or activity per item equals or exceeds 0.01 microcuries (see 4.4.3).
3.2.1 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled,
recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent
possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance
requirements and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs (see 4.4.3).
3.2.2 Metal treatments.
3.2.2.1 Ferrous surfaces. Ferrous metal surfaces shall be cleaned and treated in
accordance with the manufacturer s most effective commercial practice (see 4.4.3).
3.2.2.2 Aluminum alloy surfaces. Aluminum surfaces shall be cleaned and treated or
anodized in accordance with the manufacturer s most effective commercial practice (see 4.4.3).
3.2.2.3 Zinc plated surfaces. Zinc plated surfaces shall conform to type II, class
Fe/Zn 12 of ASTM B633 (see 4.4.3).
3.2.2.4 Dissimilar metals. Dissimilar metals shall not be used in contact with each other.
Where such contact is unavoidable, the metal shall be protected against electrolytic corrosion.
When protection is used, it shall be of such type that a low impedance path is offered to radio
frequency currents (see 4.4.3).
3.2.3 Threaded surfaces. All screw threads shall conform to ANSI/ASME B1.1. The
thread form, class and the number of threads-per-inch shall be as specified on the referenced
standards or drawings (see 4.4.3).
3.2.4 Bearings. Bearings included in blower assemblies shall meet the requirements of
ABMA-20 together with any additional requirements specified on applicable standards or
drawings. The bearings shall be lubricated with MIL-PRF-23827 grease. However,
maintenance lubrication shall not be required during the service life of the blower (see 4.4.3).
3.3 Operating requirements. Each blower assembly shall provide the following
functional, operational, and performance capabilities.
3.3.1 Endurance. The blower shall operate satisfactorily for 1000 continuous hours at
27 volt (V) while delivering not less than 4.2 cubic meter per minute (m3/min) of air at
1.49 kilopascals (kPa) back pressure (see 4.4.4.1).
3.3.2 Airflow. When operating at 25 + 3 degrees Celsius (C) with an input voltage of
27 V direct current (dc) and an input current of not more than 14.5 ampere (A), the blower shall
deliver not less than 4.2 m3/min at 1.49 kPa back pressure (see 4.4.4.2).
