3.4.13 Sand and dust. Generating system shall meet the requirements of 3.4.2 and 3.4.3
after testing in accordance with 4.19.
3.5 Finish. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), generating system shall be painted in
accordance with the manufacturer s standard practice, with outer coat of black or olive drab
enamel (see 6.3) on all exterior surfaces, except electrical connections and exposed shaft surfaces
(see 4.6.2).
3.6 Identification of product.
3.6.1 Marking. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), generating system shall be marked
in accordance with standard commercial practice (see 4.6.2).
3.6.2 Nameplate. Generating system shall have a nameplate attached to alternator frame
in conspicuous location so that plate may be easily read when generating system is installed in
vehicle. Nameplate shall contain the following minimum information (see 4.6.2):

3.7 Safety. The generating system shall be free from defects involving rotating parts,
burrs or sharp edges, and electrical shock which may result in injury of personnel (see 4.6.2).
4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are
classified as follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.3).
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.4).
c. Control tests (see 4.5).
4.2 Inspection conditions. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), all inspections shall be
conducted under the following standard (room) ambient conditions:
a. Temperature: 77 + 15F (25 + 8.3C).
